ROMANIA:Price signal? Nuclearelectrica sold electricity for the whole year 2026 at 90 euros/MWh

Nuclearelectrica, the operator of the Cernavoada nuclear power plant, sold electricity for delivery in 2026 on the centralized market of bilateral contracts, at prices higher than those currently regulated.
450 lei/MWh. With that, Nuclerelectrica put up for sale on the centralized market of bilateral contracts of OPCOM, LE-Flex section, electricity with band delivery between January 1 and December 31, 2026. The company put up for sale energy with band delivery, at a power of 10 MW ., a total of 87,600 MWh.
The company found a buyer, namely RCS-RDS, once one of the major suppliers, but now with a smaller presence in the market. The transaction was completed at the price of 450.80 lei/MWh.
The transaction is important from two points of view. Firstly because, in our data at least in this market, it is the first time a producer has sold energy for delivery in 2026. Secondly, it can be seen that despite the price declines in some markets in the last time, a large Romanian producer sold energy at a relatively high price – 90 euros/MWh, anyway above the current regulated level of 400 lei/MWh, through which producers sell energy without paying the surcharge through the Centralized Purchase Mechanism , which is now optional, however.
In 2026, if there are no more legislative changes, in theory the electricity market will be 100% free again.
Nuclearelectrica also sold electricity on the forward market and for closer delivery periods, and all transactions were completed at prices above the MACEE price, even if the producer asked for less. Thus, a package of 10 MW bandwidth with delivery in the second half of this year was put up for sale at the price of 400 lei/MWh, but the company managed to obtain 414 lei, and another package, of 5 MW bandwidth, with delivery also in the second semester of this year, also sold for 400 lei, found a buyer at the same price, 414 lei/MWh.
The price at which the nuclear power producer put energy for sale for the year 2025 is also interesting: All 460 lei/MWh, the price at which it put a package on sale two months ago . And now, as then, it found a buyer at this price and the transaction ended, this time, with RCS-RDS.
