Turkey’s state-owned natural gas network operator BOTAŞ has signed a long-term contract to purchase liquefied natural gas (LNG) with American giant ExxonMobil, according to Reuters.
According to the signed contract, BOTAS will receive up to 2.5 million tons of LNG per year from ExxonMobil, for a period of 10 years.
In a social media post, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar described the deal as another step forward in Turkey’s resource diversification.
“We are among the first few countries in the world with our regasification capacity. We will continue to contribute to the security of energy supply of both our country and our region,” the Turkish official added.
A signing ceremony for this agreement took place in Washington at the end of last week.
