Botas, the Turkish state energy company, and the British oil group Shell will sign, on Monday, a long-term liquefied natural gas supply agreement, the Ministry of Energy of Turkey informed, reports Reuters.
In May of this year, Botas initialed an agreement with the American group ExxonMobil on the supply of liquefied gas for a period of ten years, according to which Botas will purchase up to 2.5 million tons of liquefied gas per year from the group American energy.
Turkey covers almost all of its gas needs from imports and last year bought 14.3 billion cubic meters, or 28.3% of the total amount of 50.5 billion cubic meters consumed last year, in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG). .
Reuters states that Turkey benefits from flexibility on the supply side, as it can cover its national consumption with liquefied gas instead of gas delivered through pipelines, if the situation requires it, with a gasification capacity of 160 million cubic meters of gas liquefied per day.
