EU: The EU is not in any discussion for gas transit through Ukraine

An EU official says the EU bloc is not in talks on gas transit through Ukraine, according to Bloomberg.
The European Commission is not involved in any discussions to facilitate the continued transit of natural gas through Ukraine’s pipeline system to the EU bloc, according to Ditte Jorgensen, director general for energy.
Some government and company officials are in talks about potential gas imports from Azerbaijan via Russia and Ukraine to replace a transit agreement that expires at the end of the year. Negotiations continued last week, Bloomberg reported.
When asked in New York if the European Union’s executive arm was involved in discussions on continuing transit through Ukraine after the current deal, Jorgensen said: “I can answer very simply, no.”
The Czech Republic warned earlier this month that gas delivered from January 1, 2025 could contain Russian molecules, undermining EU efforts to cut off energy supplies from the Russian Federation.
Ukraine has repeatedly said it will not extend the transit contract for Russian gas through its territory beyond December 31, 2024, when the current transit agreement expires.
