Hidroelectrica and MASDAR, a major global player for investments in green energy, are working on the establishment of a joint venture for the realization of terrestrial and floating solar photovoltaic projects, as well as for the implementation of energy storage systems in batteries, announced the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja.
He received the visit of the CEO of the MASDAR company, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, and the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates in Romania, H.S. Sultan Mohamed Majed Alali.
“A first investment considered is a pilot project for the installation of floating photovoltaic panels on seven reservoirs on the Olt River. There is also the potential for the two companies to pursue new opportunities in other technologies as well, such as generation from onshore or offshore wind sources, both in Romania and across borders. The target of the company that Hidroelectrica and MASDAR will form is a capacity of at least 2000 MW in the next three years”, the Minister of Energy said.
Also, Burduja mentioned that one of the most important partnerships for the Ministry of Energy is the one between Hidroelectrica and MASDAR, this company being one of the “global pioneers in investments and development of energy projects”, having in operation and development capacities of over 15,000 MW installed power.
“This strategic partnership is further proof that Hidroelectrica is a mature, international company with development plans in new business lines. Moreover, it is a concrete example of the special relationship between Romania and the United Arab Emirates, which are committed to promoting sustainability and the diversification of energy sources”, Burduja said.
