The additional installed capacity in Romania in this am amounts to 1,000 MW, an amount that also includes the refurbished block 5 from the Rovinari thermal power plant and we already have a storage capacity of 200 mWh, according to the head of the National Energy Dispatch, Virgiliu Ivan. “This year, several energy capacities were put into operation, especially from renewable sources. In total, about 800 MW have been added so far, if we also take into account group 5 from Rovinari, recently refurbished, which brings 330 MW, and group 5 from the Stejaru hydroelectric plant which brings 50 MW, where the retrofit was completed. To these are added other photovoltaic plants with a capacity of approximately 300 MW. Another 200 MW are also in the process of commissioning, after the completion of works and documentation by the grid operators. So, this year, we have somewhere around 1,000 MW of installed power put into operation at the disposal of the electricity market”, said Virgiliu Ivan, at a conference organized by the publication Focus Energetic. Ivan also spoke about the increase in the electricity storage capacity benefiting the National Energy System, also referring to the local production of storage systems. “We are also attracting batteries, we are also attracting factories that are developing in Romania to support storage, a very gratifying thing, considering the need for storage facilities, in this transition period. The fact that we have local products is a step forward and, as the Romanian market becomes saturated, I am convinced that these products will also reach export”, said Ivan. According to the information provided by Ivan, at the end of 2024 in Romania there will be a storage capacity of 100 MW of power, with a capacity of about 200 MWh and “others will follow”. According to ANRE’s real-time data, the installed power in Romania is 18,560 MW, which does not include the completed energy capacities that are in tests.
