ROMANIA: Romania’s new energy strategy could be adopted this week, by Government decision – Burduja

Romania’s energy strategy 2035, with a horizon of 2050, could be adopted this week, by Government decision, this being correlated with the National Integrated Energy, Climate Change Plan (PNIESC), a document that Romania has assumed at the European level , stated, on Tuesday, the relevant minister, Sebastian Burduja, during a specialized conference, quoted by Agerpres.

“For many years, Romania has not had an energy strategy. The last one was adopted in 2007. When I took office, many people in the system told me: we don’t have an energy strategy, let’s do it. No one believed this approach was possible. There are good chances that as of this week, adopted in the Government meeting, by Government decision, Romania’s energy strategy 2035, with a horizon of 2050. It is also fully correlated with the National Integrated Energy, Climate Change Plan (PNIESC), a document that Romania assumed at the European level. Also, we managed to recover the gaps, to send it in final form to the European Commission”, stated Burduja, at the event Energy Forum XII Edition: 2025 the year of great challenges, organized by DC Media Group.

He emphasized that, in the short and medium term, Romania will make the transition from coal to gas, and in the medium and long term, from gas to nuclear.

“Romania is no longer among the last states that did not send its Integrated National Plan. As we are talking about European commitments, I am convinced that, no matter who comes to govern, he will respect them, because there can be unpleasant consequences if we don’t. It is certain that now, through the National Energy Strategy, we also have a plan that I could describe simply: in the short and medium term we are making the transition from coal to gas, all the more so as Romania will have important gas resources in The Black Sea – and I assure you that we are not stuck in ineptitudes like the ancient remains 160 km offshore, on the bottom of the Black Sea. In the medium and long term, let’s move from gas to nuclear, where Romania has tradition, has performance, has projects in the works, will have everything it needs to ensure an energy transition, in this order of priorities: safe energy, affordable energy and the cleanest possible energy”, added the minister.
