SOUTH EAST EUROPE: MVM negotiates a new gas import agreement with Botaș

Share

Hungarian company MVM CEEnergy is in talks with Turkish gas company Botas for a new gas import deal, Laszlo Fritsch, the group’s Hungarian chief executive, told Reuters.

In the first such deal between the two countries, MVM signed a deal with Botas last year to import around 300 million cubic metres of gas.

“We are working on a new deal for 2025… we are now targeting much higher volumes,” Laszlo Fritsch told Reuters on the sidelines of the Istanbul Energy Forum.

He said Russian gas would continue to be a major part of Hungary’s energy mix, with the TurkStream pipeline an important import route.

“We cannot rely solely on liquefied natural gas (LNG) because it comes from afar and Russian gas is still competitive in the region,” Fritsch said.
