ROMANIA: Hidroelectrica signed a contract worth over 39 million euros for the rehabilitation of the weirs at the Portile de Fier I Spillway Dam

Hidroelectrica has signed a contract worth over 39.2 million euros (excluding VAT) for the structural rehabilitation of the gates at the Portile de Fier I Spillway Dam, the company announced in a press release.
According to the cited source, the contract was awarded following an open tender procedure, which respected the principle of transparency and fair competition.
The project, with an initial estimated value of 40 million euros, excluding VAT, will run for a period of approximately seven years and aims to carry out rehabilitation works on the safety structures related to the double-hook gates at the Portile de Fier I Spillway Dam, an important objective for the safety and efficiency of the operation of the Portile de Fier I Hydropower System.
After evaluating the offers according to the award criterion “best quality-price ratio”, the offer submitted by DSD Noell GmbH was designated the winner.

The Portile de Fier I spillway dam plays an essential role in managing the country’s hydroelectric resources, and the rehabilitation works will contribute to increasing the reliability and operational safety of the spillway dam and the efficiency of the installations. These investments are an integral part of Hidroelectrica’s strategy to ensure the optimal and sustainable operation of the hydropower units, in an increasingly challenging economic and ecological environment,” said Karoly Borbely, CEO of Hidroelectrica, in the quoted press release. Hidroelectrica is the largest electricity producer in Romania and plays a crucial role in ensuring the stability of the national energy system, through the generation of green electricity and the sustainable management of hydrological resources.
