PPC Group enters the renewable energy market in Italy with two new photovoltaic plants, with a total installed capacity of 32 MW.
In line with its commitment to consolidate its leadership in the energy transition in South-Eastern Europe, PPC Group expands its green portfolio with the inauguration of the Carcarello and Luxenia photovoltaic plants, located in central Italy, with installed capacities of 20 MW and 12 MW respectively.
The two plants, whose construction will be completed in the coming days, have been equipped with over 55,000 bifacial photovoltaic panels. They are estimated to produce over 60 GWh of energy annually, enough to power around 15,000 households. The two photovoltaic parks will contribute to preventing carbon emissions of around 37,200 tons of CO2 per year.
“PPC’s entry into the Italian energy market clearly demonstrates the Group’s strategy to become a key energy pillar in the wider South-Eastern Europe region. The two photovoltaic plants that will now come into operation are just the beginning. The company’s strategic plan foresees a whole series of projects to be completed by 2027. We continue to expand our green portfolio, with geographical and technological diversification, to maximize the benefits of the green transition and the interconnected energy market,” said Konstantinos Mavros, Deputy CEO for Renewable Energy at PPC Group.
The two new photovoltaic plants are part of a wider agreement with Metlen Energy & Metals for renewable energy projects in four countries in South-Eastern Europe.
The PPC Group is advancing in the development of new renewable energy projects, constantly adding wind and photovoltaic projects to its existing portfolio, which has already reached an installed capacity of around 5.5 GW. Of these, around 1.5 GW are in Romania.
According to its three-year strategic plan, by 2027, PPC Group will develop an additional 6.3 GW of renewable energy in Greece and the wider South-Eastern Europe region, with the aim of reaching an installed capacity of 11.8 GW in 2027. Currently, more than 60% of the renewable energy projects to be added are under construction or ready for construction. The two new photovoltaic parks in Italy are part of this plan.
PPC Group’s strategic plan includes entering new markets, such as Italy, Bulgaria and Croatia, adjacent countries with existing interconnections. Italy and Croatia are particularly important markets due to their interconnections and significant potential in the renewable energy sector.
PPC Renewables, a wholly owned subsidiary of PPC, is a growth pillar of the Group’s green portfolio. PPC Renewables invests in the power of nature through renewable energy generation and storage. In addition to its large-scale photovoltaic and wind projects, the company innovates in Southeastern Europe through projects covering the full range of renewable energy sources (wind, solar, hydropower, geothermal and biomass).
