Black Sea Oil and Gas (BSOG), the company controlled by the American investment fund Carlyle, announces the 1,000-day anniversary of extracting the first molecule of gas from the Black Sea.
BSOG, which provides about 10% of Romania’s gas consumption, says that in the 1,000 days since the extraction of the first gas, it has produced three billion cubic meters of gas, and this without any incident.
BSOG has been extracting gas from the Black Sea since June 2022, when gas from the Midia Gas Development (MGD) project began entering the national grid, at a rate of about three million cubic meters per day, or one billion cubic meters per year. The gas extracted from the shallow Ana and Doina perimeters reaches Engie Romania for ten years, following a long-term contract signed before the start of exploitation. The investment was 400 million dollars.
The MGD project is the first natural gas development project on the Romanian Black Sea continental shelf built in the last 30 years. At one point, BSOG was in talks to sell the Black Sea concession, and Petrom was also interested at one point, but it seems that the asking price – a reported amount of one billion euros – was considered too high, did not attract buyers, so BSOG decided to continue operating.
BSOG also posted a video on their social media page to mark the 1,000-day anniversary.
