The Minister of Investments and European Projects, Marcel Boloș, participated in the official launch of the Romanian Hydrogen and New Energy Technologies Hub – Ro-HydroHub, a center of excellence for research and development of hydrogen-based technologies. The project, financed by the Smart Growth, Digitalization and Financial Instruments Program 2021-2027 (PoCIDIF), benefits from an investment of almost 140 million euros, with the objective of modernizing the energy sector and accelerating the transition to green energy.
“Today we are not just launching a project, but we are laying the foundations of a new economic model for Romania – one based on innovation, sustainability and technological excellence. I am convinced that the allocated European funding will contribute to marking a turning point in Romania’s transformation into an economy of the future. I would like to remind you that since the previous mandate, we have initiated negotiations with the European Commission to finance this project with high application potential, to support the development of products with high added value that can be assimilated by the local industry”, declared the Minister of Investments and European Projects, Marcel Boloș.
Following negotiations with representatives of the European Commission, Ro-HydroHub was accepted as a predefined project within PoCIDIF and will benefit from the support of the Management Authority throughout the implementation.
Implemented by the National Institute for Research and Development for Cryogenic and Isotopic Technologies – ICSI Râmnicu Vâlcea as the partnership leader, together with POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest, the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca and nine partners from the private sector, Ro-HydroHub will become a strategic center for the development and integration of hydrogen-based technological solutions.
Ro-HydroHub will cover a wide range of research, development and innovation activities, with the following objectives:
Development of technologies for the production, supply and storage of hydrogen;
Creation of advanced solutions for fuel cells and electrolyzers;
Implementation of integrated hydrogen systems based on renewable sources;
Technology transfer to companies and acceleration of industrial adoption of hydrogen-based technologies;
Training of a new generation of specialists through master and doctoral programs
Thus, the Ro-HydroHub project will become a pole of excellence at national and European level, strengthening Romania’s position in the green energy technologies sector. The project foresees collaboration with academia, the private sector and European institutions to facilitate the rapid adoption of innovative solutions and to support the decarbonization objectives of the European Union.
