Burduja: There are no problems in the national energy system; there is no risk of blackout

There are no problems in the national energy system, we do not anticipate any problems in the national energy system in the coming days, much less on election day, and there is no risk of blackout in Romania, Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja said on Friday in a Facebook post.

‘There are no problems in the national energy system. We currently have a consumption of almost 5,000 MW, with a production of 5,350 MW. We export around 400 MW,’ the minister explained.

According to him, the production mix is balanced, being one of Romania’s strengths.

‘We have 1,350 MW each in hydro and nuclear, and at this time we are also counting on wind, with over 1,100 MW. In solar parks, we have a production of almost 800 MW, without prosumers, with potential for growth throughout the day. From coal and gas-fired power plants, which operate at reduced power (on a commercial basis, taking into account market prices), we are still ‘collecting’ 650 MW. Finally, biomass production is constant at around 40 MW and, already a visible, very useful component, storage is currently delivering almost 40 MW more,’ Burduja wrote.

He reiterated that there will be no problems in the national energy system in the coming days, let alone on election day.

‘Despite the misinformation being spread, there is no risk of blackout in Romania, based on the data provided by the National Energy Dispatcher. The maintenance and modernization works of the network are punctual, scheduled and usual. We keep the lights on for Romania and for all Romanians. Once again, I thank all my colleagues who are on duty in the Romanian energy sector, regardless of days off or national holidays,’ Burduja concluded the post.
