The Caragele gas field, one of the most promising onshore fields in Romania, reached 2nd place in Romgaz production last year, Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja said on his Facebook page.
Here is what Burduja wrote on Facebook:
One of our strategic investments is at Caragele. In 2024, production at Caragele was 22.48% higher than in 2023, thus becoming the second field in terms of share in Romgaz’s total production (6.6% of total Romgaz production). Investment works worth 147 million lei were carried out here last year, the main ones being:
– Drilling and commissioning of the 100 Caragele well in 75 days (a speed record for Romgaz) and the 78 Rosetti Side Track well.
– Carrying out repair operations in 5 wells, resulting in an increase in production.
– Feasibility Study for the exploitation of wells in the Rosetti & Damianca area prepared in order to expand the surface infrastructure for future wells (8 wells).
– Well 55 Damianca put into production, through a temporary installation.
– Drilling works started on well 76 Rosetti.
“For the development of the Caragele Deep project, namely the evaluation of already discovered accumulations, the identification of new accumulations and their exploitation, Romgaz will continue to carry out investment works for the drilling of new deep wells and the development of an infrastructure expansion project. For all these projects, Romgaz will invest over 1.3 billion lei from its own sources”, said Burduja, who also published the photo above, with the following comment: “In the impressive images, you can see well 54 Damianca, for which the assembly of the drilling installation is underway. The actual drilling will begin at the end of May”.
Romgaz announced in January 2020 the start of production from the deep zone of the Caragele structure, through the 77 Rosetti well, with a daily production potential of over 1,500 barrels of oil equivalent, according to a press release issued at the time.
Romgaz, the largest state-controlled gas producer in Romania, reported a net profit increase of almost 15% in 2024, up to 3.2 billion lei, given that the elimination of the solidarity contribution had a “significant positive influence”.
Even so, the company paid a total of 3.88 billion lei to the Romanian Government in 2024, in the form of taxes and royalties.
