Arrow Electronics, in collaboration with Prime Batteries and NXP Semiconductors, is launching a next-generation battery energy storage system (BESS) platform, according to a press release.
With extensive experience in Li-ion battery development, Prime Batteries developed this solution with the support of Arrow and NXP to support the energy industry and energy-saving technologies, responding to the growing global demand for increased efficiency. By leveraging their combined strengths, the companies aim to set new standards in energy-saving technology and have a significant impact across industries, the release says.
Battery energy storage systems are at the heart of the energy sector transformation, offering a wide range of applications – from renewable energy integration and grid stability, to demand-response systems, microgrid operation and use in commercial, industrial and residential areas.
“The solution complies with the latest European safety regulations and achieves unprecedented levels of energy storage capacity, making it ideal for a variety of BESS applications. The platform’s versatility allows it to meet diverse customer needs, with adjustable voltage and current parameters. It supports high voltages of up to 1,500 V, in line with current trends in the high-power equipment market, and meets strict safety standards for critical applications, including ISO 26262, with the potential for ASIL D certification if required. The system includes multiple levels of protection and continuous, independent cell monitoring.
Designed with scalability and upgradeability in mind, BESS can meet changing customer requirements. Reduced maintenance requirements and optimized operating conditions extend its lifespan, thus reducing the total cost of ownership,” the press release added.
Vitali Damasevich, Director of Engineering for Eastern Europe and EMEA Engineering Solutions Center, Arrow Electronics, said:
“We are delighted to partner with NXP and Prime Batteries to support the delivery of this next-generation BESS solution. Combining our engineering expertise and supply chain capabilities, Arrow and NXP are supporting Prime Batteries in enabling the rapid deployment of energy storage systems that will support the transition to a cleaner and more resilient energy grid.”
Vicentiu Ciobanu, CEO of Prime Batteries, said: “Our collaboration with Arrow and NXP has resulted in a BESS platform that not only meets the highest safety standards, but also offers flexibility, scalability and cost efficiency. This solution will certainly accelerate the adoption of renewable energy and contribute to a more sustainable future.”
“Our 1,500 V battery energy storage system offers a modular and scalable reference design for high-voltage applications in utility, industrial, commercial and residential,” said Alex Dopplinger, senior director, power and energy division, NXP Semiconductors. “Our reference solutions help companies like Prime Batteries reduce development time and project complexity by directly leveraging advanced technologies such as pre-certified safety libraries and documentation (IEC 61508 SIL 2 and IEC 60730 Class B) for robust, long-lasting storage installations,” he added.
Global Giants
Arrow Electronics is an American company headquartered in Colorado, a global supplier of electronic components and computing products for enterprises. In 2024, the company ranked 133rd on the Fortune 500 list of the largest corporations in the United States by revenue, with $28 billion.
NXP Semiconductors N.V. is a Dutch semiconductor design and manufacturing company. It is the third-largest European semiconductor company by market capitalization. The company employs approximately 34,000 people in over 30 countries and reported revenue of $13.3 billion in 2023. The company’s origins date back to the 1950s as part of Philips, becoming one of the largest semiconductor companies in the world by the end of the 20th century. Philips spun off the company in 2006, and NXP has operated independently ever since, coming close to being acquired by US giant Qualcomm nine years ago for a then industry record $44 billion.
Prime is one of the leading energy storage solutions manufacturers in the European Union, having been founded in 2016. With over 37 years of experience in Li-ion batteries, it focuses on adding value to the energy storage industry. The company, founded by entrepreneur Adrian Polec, has a battery factory in Cernica, Romania, whose capacity will grow exponentially.
