Turkish engineering and energy company YEO Teknoloji Enerji has announced a new international partnership in Romania to expand its footprint in renewable energy through a major investment in solar power of 105 MWp
YEO Teknoloji announced that its subsidiary DEFIC Globe Enerji has signed a partnership agreement with a Swiss investment firm. The agreement covers joint investments in three photovoltaic parks in Romania, with a total installed capacity of 105 megawatts-peak (MWp). According to the statement, the agreement will enter into force after approval by the Romanian Competition Council and the completion of other necessary legal formalities.
According to the terms of the partnership, 50% of the shares of the Romanian subsidiaries will be transferred to the Swiss partner, while DEFIC Globe will retain the remaining 50%.
The statement also mentioned that YEO Group will be responsible for the entire execution of the solar projects (it will be the EPC contractor), including engineering services, construction of high-voltage transformer stations and development of transmission lines – delivering turnkey installations.
YEO Teknoloji is increasingly expanding its presence in the renewable energy sector through international partnerships. The company has previously signed joint venture agreements with Shanghai Electric Power of China for a 129 MWp project and with Norwegian firm Scatec for a 190 MWp solar power plant.
With the new agreement in Romania, the total solar capacity of YEO’s international partnerships reaches 419 MWp. Founded in 2004, YEO Teknoloji Enerji ve Endustri A.Ş. is a Turkey-based company active in over 30 countries on three continents, with over 620 employees.
What other projects do the Turks have in Romania
Defic Globe opened its office in Bucharest last fall and became a member of the Romanian Photovoltaic Industry Association (RPIA). A year earlier, the company had completed its first investment in Romania, an 18 MW photovoltaic park in Caracal.
Last year, the company began construction of two new plants in Bobicești, with a cumulative capacity of 21.3 MWp, which are expected to become operational this summer. In addition, Defic Globe also announced the conclusion of a partnership with Shanghai Electric Power Co., with a view to jointly developing two photovoltaic plants in Romania – with a total capacity of 129 MWp, in addition to the above.
Defic Globe is also a partner of the Norwegian company Scatec ASA, a company with a global portfolio of 4,200 MW of renewables in operation and with the oil giant Equinor as a shareholder, for another project in Romania. It is about a 190 MW photovoltaic portfolio, an investment of 140 million euros that qualified and signed the contract – for 70% of the capacity – under the Romanian Government’s CfD scheme.
