Monsson announces the successful completion of the acquisition of 100% of the shares in a 60 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project located in the municipality of Eskilstuna, Sweden. The transaction was concluded with Neoen, one of the world’s largest independent renewable energy producers, as part of its strategy to focus on larger-scale projects, according to a Monsson press release.

The project is fully licensed and is scheduled to start construction in June 2025, the Romanian company says

“This represents the first implementation by Monsson of its own BESS solution in Sweden, designed for the country’s demanding weather conditions. Our energy storage systems are designed to ensure high system efficiency and availability for grid services and electricity trading. We aim to soon deploy over 200 MWh of storage capacity in Sweden, laying the foundation for further investments and partnerships,” says Monsson.

“Monsson has been active in Sweden for over a decade, mainly through wind farm operation and maintenance services. With this acquisition, we now position ourselves as a developer, service provider and investor, committed to acquiring, building and operating advanced energy storage systems throughout the Scandinavian market,” said Joanna Lilliequist, CEO of Monsson Energy AB.

“We currently operate 72 MWh of energy storage and have another 348 MWh under construction. With the additional 60 MWh project in Eskilstuna, we aim to reach a European storage portfolio of over 1,000 MWh, including projects in Germany, Finland, Italy and Croatia,” said Sebastian Enache, M&A Director at Monsson Group.

Monsson has been active in the renewable energy sector in Europe for over 20 years. With a portfolio exceeding 6 GW in wind, solar and battery energy storage (BESS) projects, Monsson offers turnkey solutions for the development, construction and operation of renewable energy projects, including advanced energy storage systems.

Neoen is a French renewable energy producer headquartered in Paris, France. Founded in 2008, the company develops, finances, builds and operates solar power plants, onshore wind farms and energy storage solutions. As of December 31, 2024, the company’s total capacity was 8.9 GW, composed of 46% solar, 27% wind and 26% battery storage. Neoen aims to reach 10 GW in operation or under construction by the end of the year.
