The EU imported energy products worth 95.3 billion euros

The European Union member states imported 176.4 million tonnes of energy products, worth 95.3 billion euros, in the first three months of this year, down 3.9% in volume terms but up slightly by 0.3% in value terms, compared to the same period last year, according to data published by Eurostat.

According to these data, the bloc’s oil imports fell in the first three months both in value (11.9%) and in volume terms (8%).

In contrast, EU liquefied gas imports increased significantly in value (45.3%) and volume (12.1%). In parallel, the value of gaseous natural gas imports increased (19%) even though the volume of imports decreased (12.1%).

In the first quarter of this year, the EU’s main oil suppliers were: the USA (15% of the value of imports), Norway (13.5%) and Kazakhstan (12.7%).

During the same period, half of the liquefied gas imported by the EU came from the US (50.7% of the value of imports). Other important suppliers were Russia (17%) and Qatar (10.8%).

More than half of the natural gas in gaseous form was also imported from Norway (52.6%). Algeria (19.4%) and Russia (11.1%) were next.
