Danish renewable energy producer Eurowind Energy has placed an order for Vestas wind turbines with a total capacity of 143 MW for the Frumușița, Vector and Pecineaga Northeast wind farms in Romania, a Vestas press release said.
The contract includes the supply and installation of 23 V162-6.2 MW wind turbines built on the EnVentus platform. Vestas will also provide long-term maintenance services under a 20-year contract.
Delivery of the turbines is planned for the second half of 2026, with commissioning scheduled for the second half of 2027.
Srdan Cenic, General Manager of Vestas Mediterranean East, said: “We are proud to collaborate with Eurowind Energy on this project and thank them for their trust. This order demonstrates our strength in local implementation and service, as well as our ability to deliver the latest wind technology in support of Romania’s energy transition.”
“As Romania accelerates its energy transition through legislative reforms, CfD (contracts for difference) auctions and grid modernizations, Vestas is strengthening its presence in the market. With its regional headquarters for Eastern Europe in Bucharest, Vestas has over 550 employees in Romania, including a qualified team of project maintenance technicians,” the Vestas press release said.
Since entering the Romanian market in 2009, Vestas has played a key role in the development of wind energy in the country. With over 1.5 GW of installed capacity and projects under construction, Vestas is currently the leading original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in the Romanian wind sector. The company provides services for over 1.2 GW, supported by a strong local infrastructure, including five service centers and a regional training center. Morten Gaarde, EPC Director at Eurowind Energy, added: “Romania is a core market for us and we are delighted to take the next step with this order. Frumușița, Vector and Pecineaga Northeast are very important projects for us and we look forward to delivering them together with Vestas, continuing our long-standing partnership.”
Vestas is one of the largest global companies in the wind energy industry, headquartered in Denmark, and has over 40 years of experience in developing, manufacturing, installing and servicing wind turbines. The company operates in over 80 countries and has installed more than 160 GW of wind capacity worldwide. Vestas offers solutions for both onshore and offshore projects and through its extensive service network, Vestas maintains an active fleet of over 150 GW, supporting the global transition to clean energy. The company had a business of 17.3 billion euros in 2024.
Eurowind Projects in Romania
Eurowind Energy, a developer and operator of renewable projects, announced last month the development of a new photovoltaic park in the town of Vișina, Dâmbovița County. With an installed capacity of 220 MW, the project will become the largest in the company’s local portfolio and one of the largest in Romania. The total estimated value of the investment is 174.8 million euros.
“We are a serious player, with solid long-term plans for Romania and a local pipeline of approximately 7.5 GW in various stages of development. The Vișina project is an important one for us – we have been working on it for several years and we are happy that it is getting closer to the construction phase. We always think long-term, and where needed, we are ready to integrate storage solutions, to support the balance of the grid and contribute to the sustainable development of the energy sector,” said Adrian Dobre, Country Manager Romania, Eurowind Energy.
Vișina is the fifth photovoltaic project developed by Eurowind Energy in Romania, after those in Hălchiu, Măgurele, Pufești and Teiuș. By the end of 2025, the company will have a local operational portfolio of 124 MW, in addition to a development pipeline of approximately 7.5 GW, covering solar, wind, hybrid and storage solutions.
