Share

HELLENiQ Energy, originally an oil company from Greece, but which entered the renewable segment, opened its company in Romania, after buying hundreds of MW of photovoltaic projects in our country.

On May 28, the HELLENiQ RES Romania SRL company was established at the Trade Registry, with the main object of activity “activities of holding companies”, and with a share capital of one million lei. The company in Romania was founded by Helleniq Renewables Single Member from Greece, with unlimited duration and with four Greek administrators.

HELLENiQ Energy is, at its core, a company active in the fuel refining and distribution segment on the Greek market, dating back to 1958, with the inauguration of the first oil refinery in Greece. However, it has changed its orientation towards green energy in recent years and even changed its name from Hellenic Petroleum.

HELLENiQ Energy entered the Romanian renewable energy market last year, by purchasing four photovoltaic projects, totaling 211 MW, from Mytilineos, according to an announcement made at the time at the Athens Stock Exchange.

According to the agreement between the two Greek companies, HELLENiQ Energy will effectively take over the production capacities after they become operational. At the time, the projects were said to be at an advanced stage and expected to connect to the local grid gradually by the end of September 2025.

The proposed photovoltaic plants are expected to cover the consumption of 100,000 households in Romania, with an estimated annual production of over 300 GWh.

In addition, HELLENiQ Energy said at the time that it had entered into a preliminary agreement with an unnamed group to develop 600 MW of photovoltaic power in Romania.
